Update on Apex Bike Trails

tl;dr I attended last night's Apex Town Hall meeting and witnessed a group of people working to keep access to their mountain bike trails.

Hi, Apex. Last night, I went to a town hall meeting, and I heard some young men fight for their mountain bike trails. It was a really good experience for me as a parent and as somebody that actually likes to bike. Well, you see, at the Laura Duncan Park, it wasn't always here, and I remember that because my family moved here a long time ago, and what used to be here was just the power lines. We would ride dirt bikes, we'd ride BMX bikes, and just have a great time. You know, kids being kids. I think those kids deserve to have the same memories as I did, but not just those kids.

My kids had a similar experience when they fought for their rugby club. A lot of the football players and wrestlers were bored in the off-season, so why not do rugby? Well, they had to face the challenge of, "How do we keep this going?" in their school. And we supported them as parents to keep that dream alive. Didn't turn out the way we wanted to, but our kids have remained friends with those same guys throughout the years. We've attended weddings. They're having children, starting their own families. And a lot of that started with the camaraderie that they had when they were young people.

I see a lot of that in the young men I saw last night speaking. And if I'm being honest, if you want to know what I stand for in Apex, I think it's only fair that our kids get to have the same opportunity to thrive as so many others do.
